Sweet Tea

It just wouldn't be very southerly of me if I didn't post something for sweet tea now would it? I have a handful of friends that when they come over and learn I only have "Yankee Tea" they just ask for water. Now, I like my tea sweet just like the rest of "ya'll". Make this and your southern friends will thank you.

Ingredients:
2 cups water
2 large tea bags
1 cup sugar
1/8 tsp. baking soda

Directions:
(1) In a saucepan bring 2 cups water to a boil. Remove from heat.
(2) Add 1 cup of sugar and stir until dissolved. Add baking soda and stir until dissolved.
(3) Steep 2 large tea bags until tea is desired strength. Remove tea bags.
(4) In a 2-quart pitcher add tea mixture. Fill pitcher with remaining water. Stir and chill.

  1. REALLY!? Baking soda!?!?!? What does that do!? That's usually a bitter flavor! I'm fascinated. Will have to try this too! :)

  2. @Jo - from what I've read the baking soda is suppose to take the bitterness out of the tea and add a darker color to it. Frankly, I can't even taste it.
